The shuttle valve is a vital part of a vehicle's braking system, particularly in systems utilizing dual-circuit hydraulic brakes, such as those commonly found in trucks. Its primary function is to ensure the proper distribution of hydraulic pressure between the front and rear brake circuits, helping to maintain balanced braking performance and stability.
The shuttle valve typically consists of a housing with internal passages and valves that allow hydraulic fluid to flow between the front and rear brake circuits. In normal operation, the shuttle valve maintains equal pressure distribution between the circuits. However, in the event of a brake line failure or loss of pressure in one circuit, the shuttle valve redirects hydraulic pressure from the intact circuit to the affected circuit, allowing the driver to maintain some braking capability and control the vehicle safely.
